Magazine Title and Audience Feedback

My chosen name for my magazine is 'Revolution'. As the genre of my magazine is pop I wanted a name that linked to my chosen style of music. I decided to go with 'Revolution' as pop music is usually brand new music that gets everyone talking which is what I want I wanted the magazine to connote. new music is often described as being revolutionary which is how I got the idea for the name. My audience feedback helped me to identify what people though of the idea for my magazine. After watching my pitch, most people said that the colour scheme fits in with my chosen style of music and that the title works well. I also asked people what music artists they would expect to see in this style of magazine. This question helped me as now I can identify what sort of artist I could mention in my magazine and who my target audience is interested in. The majority of the people I asked said that £4 per month is a reasonable amount for a monthly magazine. Most of the people who filled out my audience feedback said they were aged between 16 and 18 so this was useful as I now know what my target audience look for in a magazine.

Analysis Of Institutions

Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company. Bauer Media distribute and own 600 magazines, more than 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the world. The portfolio includes print shops, postal, distribution and marketing services. At the moment they are Britain’s biggest magazine publisher. They publish many well known magazines such as Q, Ker rang and Mojo. I think this would be a suitable institution as they have already published pop themed magazines and have clearly been successful which is evident due to their 2.4 billion turnover.

Prometheus Global Media is another successful media company that have published and distributed a number of popular pop music magazines. Prometheus GM own Billboard magazine which is a good example of a pop themed magazine. Many of their products can be found in consumer bookshops and magazine stands. This would be a good publisher to use, as their name suggests, it is a worldwide company and their products will reach audiences across the globe.

Audience Profile

Audeince Research

My magazine style will be pop music, it is important to identify who I need to be aiming my magazine at so I can design my magazine with a target audience in mind. To carry out my research I have looked at existing magazines and have found out what age ranges are most interested in them. For magazines like 'Vibe', 'Billboard' and 'i-D' the age range is 15 to 25. I am using all these magazines as inspiration for my own magazine and as I have chosen the same style as them, so I will have the same target audience. I will try to aim my magazine more towards women as research shows that women listen to pop music more than men. My target audience will mainly be teenagers so the magazine will need to include celebrity names, a good title and a eye-catching cover. The magazine shouldn't look too busy instead it should be simple, this way teenagers wont be put off reading it due to the big chunks of text. the magazine needs to stich to the main stream theme as the website 'UKtribes' states that 'Mainstream Tribes prefer to stick with what’s safe rather than rock the boat'.

Chosen Style of Magazine

Out of all the different genres of music I have decided to go with pop music, I listen to pop music more than any other type of music and I think designing a magazine to fit this type of music will be difficult. Pop music appeals to a wide range of people as it is one of the most popular types of music to listen to, so designing a magazine that would appeal to most people will be challenging. I will carry out audience research to find out what age group generally listen to pop music and what interests the age group, from this I will be able to determine features that will work well on my magazine e.g colours and style.
